Chapter 1
The wind howled fiercely that night at the Silverfang clan mansion. In the west wing, Aleya stared at her reflection in the mirror, her jaw clenched and her heart pounding in her chest.
“Are you sure about this? If we’re discovered, there will be nowhere to hide.” Her voice trembled, but the answer came immediately from within.
“Please! When was the last time we did something exciting? This will be like a parade, but with muscles and testosterone. What could go wrong?” Her wolf, Luna, sounded thrilled, as always.
Aleya frowned. “Everything could go wrong, Luna. I’m the heir of the most powerful clan, and I’m about to enroll in an alpha academy… as a man!”
“Details, details… Look, you cut your hair, learned to growl like a guy, and those pheromones stink enough to fool anyone. You’ll be a hit.”
“This isn’t a game. If Father finds out…” Aleya murmured, adjusting the tie of her new male uniform.
Luna let out a mental laugh. “If Father finds out? Come on, you’re doing him a favor. That alpha he wants to push you toward has less brains than a toothless pup. You deserve something spicier.”
Aleya closed her eyes in frustration but couldn’t stop a small smile from curling her lips. “Why am I so serious, and you’re so… you?”
“Because someone has to balance this relationship, darling. Now, put on the boots, and let’s see how well you can pretend to be one of them. Spoiler: you’ll probably blush at any risqué comment.”
“Luna…”
“I say it with love, I promise.”
Aleya’s smile faded as her wolf added, “Besides, I can’t wait to see those alphas fall flat on their backs when they find out you’re their destined mate. Now that will be hilarious!”
And so began her adventure: a wolf princess undercover, a chatty wolf companion, and a destiny that would change her life… three times over.
Three Months Earlier – The Silverfang Family Dinner
The Silverfang mansion glimmered under the dim candlelight. In the main dining room, the table was so long that Aleya often joked they’d need a messenger to pass the salt. But that night, there were no jokes. The atmosphere was tense, like the silence before a storm.
Aleya sat next to her older brother, Samuel, a 23-year-old alpha with a carefree smile and a voracious appetite. Across from them, her father, Damian Silverfang, the clan’s imposing leader, watched everything with critical eyes. His deep voice broke the silence as he set his knife on his plate with calculated precision.
“Two moons from now, Aleya. You’ll turn 18, and as is tradition, you will join the Stoneclaw pack. The agreement will strengthen our alliance and ensure peace in the territory.”
Aleya dropped her fork. The clang of metal against porcelain echoed in the dining room. Her normally calm eyes burned with fury.
“What did you just say?” Her voice shook, not with fear, but with indignation.
Damian raised an eyebrow, his expression unyielding. “It’s a decision already made. Nathaniel Stoneclaw is a strong alpha and an exemplary leader. He’ll be a good mate for you.”
Samuel, meanwhile, continued eating as if nothing was amiss, though he avoided looking at his sister. Aleya noticed and felt her frustration grow.
“Why me, Father? Why not Samuel? He’s the heir! It’s his responsibility, not mine!” Her voice rose, breaking the decorum they usually maintained at the table.
Damian exhaled heavily, his stern gaze fixed on her. “Samuel has other duties within the clan. Besides, as a woman of the clan, your duty is to ensure the continuation of our bloodline and strengthen our alliances.”
Aleya stood abruptly, pushing her chair back. “Is that all I am to you? A means to your political alliances? You didn’t even ask me if I wanted this! I’m not a trophy, Father!”
“Watch your words, Aleya!” Damian slammed his fist on the table, making the candelabras tremble. “This isn’t a request; it’s an order. The Stoneclaw pack is crucial for our survival.”
Samuel finally spoke, his tone conciliatory. “Aleya, maybe you should listen to him. Nathaniel isn’t as bad as you think…”
She glared at him. “Of course you’d say that because you’re not the one being treated like a bargaining chip! While you get to stay the beloved heir who can do whatever he pleases.”
Samuel sighed, not wanting to escalate the conflict. Aleya expected no less from him: he always avoided trouble.
“This isn’t fair, Father. If you want an alliance, then you marry. Or let Samuel do it. But I’m not going to sacrifice my life for something I didn’t choose.” Her voice wavered, but every word carried determination.
Damian rose from his seat, towering over her. “You are my daughter, and you will fulfill your duty. This is not up for discussion.”
Aleya stared at him defiantly, her chest heaving. Without another word, she turned on her heel and left the dining room, leaving behind the echo of her footsteps and palpable tension.
In her room, she slammed the door shut and let out a muffled scream. It was then that Luna, her wolf, spoke in her usual carefree tone.
“Wow! That was awkward… Want me to bite Dad’s leg? Just in case?”
Aleya let out a bitter laugh. “This isn’t funny, Luna. He wants to sell me like livestock.”
“I know, but look at it this way: Nathaniel is uglier than a wet wolf. Maybe it’s worth running away. What do you say? A change of scenery, a bit of drama… and way less dealing with Dad.”
Aleya sighed, leaning her head against the wall. “Do you think I’m capable of doing it?”
“Running away? Of course! But if you don’t let me take control at least once, this won’t be fun.”
The spark of an idea began to form in Aleya’s mind. If no one was going to fight for her freedom, she would do it herself.
Aleya collapsed onto her bed, the weight of her father’s words crushing her like a heavy stone. The candles in her room cast dancing shadows on the walls, but nothing could distract her from the whirlwind in her mind.
“Nathaniel Stoneclaw…” she muttered with disdain, recalling the few times she had seen him at gatherings between packs. A portly alpha with a voice as gruff as his breath after a hunt. Always dressed in furs that seemed on the verge of bursting under the pressure of his belly. He was the eldest of five brothers, all equally unattractive, but Nathaniel had the “privilege” of being the heir to the clan.
“Why me?” she thought, clenching her fists against the sheets. “Father could have chosen any other solution. But no, he decides to hand me over as a trophy to someone nobody wants.”
Luna didn’t take long to chime in, her tone as sarcastic as ever. “Look on the bright side: at least you won’t have to worry about anyone else trying to steal that half-baked loaf of bread.”
Aleya sighed. “This isn’t funny, Luna. My life should be mine. I want to find my destined mate. Someone who makes me feel alive, someone who…”
Luna laughed loudly, cutting her off. “Please! Do you really believe in fairy tales? Love at first sight? Spoiler alert: it’s probably going to be a beta with bad breath and terrible taste in food.”
“Shut up.” Aleya rolled over on her bed, covering her face with a pillow. “I don’t want an arranged marriage. I want to fall in love… like Mom and Dad, before he turned into a tyrant.”
A soft knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. Aleya tensed, sitting up quickly. “Who is it?” she asked cautiously.
“It’s me, Sam. Can I come in?” Her older brother’s voice was more serious than usual.
Aleya sighed and walked to the door, opening it slowly. Samuel stood there, leaning against the frame with a guilty look on his face. He walked in without waiting for an invitation, closing the door behind him.
“What do you want, Sam? Come to tell me I’m overreacting, as usual?” she asked sharply, crossing her arms.
Samuel raised his hands in surrender. “I’m not here to fight, Aleya. I just wanted… to talk.”
She stared at him, her brow furrowed. “Talk about what? About how Father decided to sell me off to the worst match in the region because you’re too important to do it yourself?”
